Knicks Head Coach Mike Woodson Once Let Former Player Skip Practice to Go On a "Hot Date"

Wingman of the year?

Prior to becoming head coach of the New York Knicks, Mike Woodson held the same title while roaming the sidelines for the Atlanta Hawks. While thinking up a incident when players come to work and you don't know what to expect, Woodson remembered a moment on “The Game 365” on the MSG Network when the Hawks' Zaza Pachulia asked if he could skip practice for a, uh, interesting reason.

“When players come to work, you don’t know what to expect,” Woodson said. “Prime example: Zaza Pachulia comes into my office…”

Believe or not, Woodson actually let Zaza go because “he worked his butt off for me.” And after one look at Pachulia (hit the thumb for further proof), Woodson understood that his player needed as much help as he could get.
