With design cues pulled from the Caddy Converj concept, Cadillac's luxury entry into the plug-in market, the ELR, just got a boost. GM has pledged to invest a further $35 million in a Detroit assembly plant so that the hybrid can roll into production next year.

The ELR is an upscale cousin to the well-regarded Chevy Volt and the Opel Ampera models. Primary differences will come in interior trim and, most notably, the application of a sportier 2-door body.
