The Boston Red Sox have made it official. Bobby Valentine has been relieved of his managerial duties. The Sox went 69-93, their worst record since 1965, and traded away three of their biggest contracts to the Los Angeles Dodgers a couple months ago. In Bobby V's 16 years as an MLB manager, he's just a shade over .500, with a 1186-1165 record. He found success in Japan where he won a couple pennants and a 2005 Japan Series title with the Chiba Lotte Marines. Boston hired Valentine after last year's disaster of a season which led to the firing of Terry Francona and mutiny in the clubhouse. Valentine didn't help his case by beefing with players in spring training and recently questioning the loyalty of his coaches in public.
Where Boston goes from here, we have no clue, but they should think long and hard about what they're doing over there. They let go of the GM and manager that led them to two World Series titles in four years after an 86-year drought. Theo Epstein and Tito should've been allowed to fail at Fenway. Chicken, beer and video games aren't the end of the world.
