After enjoying one of the best seasons that any rookie quarterback has ever had last year, Cam Newton has gotten off to a rough start in 2012. The Panthers are 1-5. They just fired their GM. And, Newton has looked like complete crap at times. As a result, some people out there are starting to call him a bust. But, NFL Hall of Fame QB Warren Moon just spoke out on behalf of Newton and said that all of those people are jumping to conclusions too quickly.

"I think a lot of this is because so many people want to say, 'I told you so,' about him but couldn't because he was so good last year," he told Yahoo! recently. "I think people are overreacting. How can he be a bust? He just had one of the great years a rookie has ever had, and now he can't play? Come on."

Moon also revealed that he thinks people hate on Newton because he's a black quarterback.

"I don't understand it," he said. "I heard somebody compare him to Vince Young. It's the same old crap—it's always a comparison of one black to another black. I get tired of it. I get tired of defending it."

As he should. It's ridiculous for people to compare Newton to Young. It's also crazy that everyone seems to be jumping off the Cam Newton bandwagon already. But, at the same time, Newton has been pretty bad so far this season. So, if he wants those kinds of comparisons to stop, he needs to start playing better. Otherwise, we fully expect the criticism to continue.
