The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has let us know that "Not everyone should should text and walk. No one should text and drive." Aside from being an ideal place to have used the sadly forgotten semi-colon, we agree with the sentiment entirely. The alternative to fiery death is to have a designated texter when in the car. Amazingly, the concept is catching on, according to a State Farm sponsored study, even with the wantonly reckless teen-demographic.
The only problem we see with the solution is that the designated texter can't be the designated driver. Do you want your drunk buddy texting your girl for you?
