Do you know who Redskins rookie running back Alfred Morris is yet? If not, you will soon. Through two games with the 'Skins, he's got almost 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Not bad for a guy who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of the college football powerhouse (HA!) Florida Atlantic, right? He's effective, but not flashy.
In fact, you might say that Morris is a lot like his car. Despite the fact that he stands to make about $390,000 this year in addition to his $154,000 signing bonus, Morris still pushes a real POS—a 1991 Mazda 626 that features cloth seats (sweet!), power steering (nice!), and a tape deck (YES!). All told, the car is worth about $1300. And, Morris seems to love it.
"It has some sentimental value to it now," says Morris, who nicknamed the car—what else?—"Bentley". "It just keeps me grounded, where I came from and all the hard work for me to get to this point. So, that's what helps me."
Morris does plan to cop a new car soon. But, for now, he's rolling in the effective-but-not-flashy car that got him to where he's at. And, judging by what guys like Vince Youngare going through right now, that might not be such a bad idea.
