Whew. That was close.

According to Manish Mehta, the Jets beat writer for the New York Daily News, Tim Tebow will not be speaking at the 2012 Republican National Convention tonight on behalf of Mitt Romney. Apparently, the schedule for tonight's RNC includes a space that's currently marked "TBA" in between speeches by a few Olympians and Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who will be introducing Romney at tonight's event. So, there were some people out there who thought that Timmy Touchdown might be making a surprise appearance. And, the rumors surrounding Tebow's alleged RNC appearance only increased early this morning when Jets owner Woody Johnson started talking about Tebow at the RNC.

But, Mehta says Tebow will not be there. Instead, he'll be right where he's supposed to be—watching the Jets final preseason game against the Eagles from the sidelines.

I've been told Tim Tebow will not be the mystery speaker at the Republican National Convention tonight as speculated on@morning_joe #nyj

We think we speak for everyone when we say…THANK YOU. At this point, we've all had more than enough of Tebow.
