When you think things couldn't get any worse for the Boston Red Sox, they outdo themselves. The man that has the right field foul pole named after him at Fenway Park recently passed at the age of 92. And only four current Sox players out of 40 made it to Johnny Pesky's funeral earlier this week. Why, you ask? Most of the team felt like Josh Beckett's annual "Beckett Bowl" bowling party and country music show at Lucky Strike and the House of Blues were more important. Only DH David Ortiz, pitchers Clay Buchholz and Vincente Padilla and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia showed up. Even Nomar Garciaparra made time to fly out from California to make the procession. Former players Jim RiceBill Lee, Jerry Moses and Mike Andrews also made it out. The front office had buses available to drive current players, former players and employees from the ballpark to the church.

This is just another chapter in Boston's book of recent fails. Last year, it came out that players were eating fried chicken, drinking beer and playing video games during games in the clubhouse and a bunch of players have been beefing with current manager Bobby Valentine this year, with some of them conspiring to have him fired.

Pesky's Pole has been a staple at Fenway Park since the 1950's. Red Sox president, Larry Lucchino referred to Pesky as the, “heart, soul and spirit of the organization.”

The Red Sox should just forfeit the rest of the season.
