We've heard of all sorts of things that NFL players eat and drink during training camp to stay hydrated. Water? Uh, duh. Gatorade? Of course. Pickle juice? Bring it on! But, Chia Pet seeds?!? We'd never heard about NFL players—or, well, anyone for that matter—willingly eating them.

But, Carolina Panthers defensive end Thomas Keiser just revealed his secret recipe for staying hydrated on a hot day—a gallon of water mixed with two or three tablespoons of the same chia seeds that are used for Chia Pets.

"People ask me all the time if it's the same stuff that's in Chia Pets," he said recently. "It is…It helps hydrate you, because it absorbs 10 times its weight in water. And, instead of the water just going in your system and flushing right out, it's going to sit in you longer."

Um, okay. But, really? Don't people, like, freak the fuck out when you're chowing down on Chia Pets?

"Most guys think I'm pretty weird for carrying that around," he said. "I just keep telling them it's like Mike's Magic Juice in Space Jam."

Hey, whatever works. But, you're a better man than us. Enjoy whatever you've got growing inside your stomach right now.
