Now that the 2012 Summer Olympics are over and Team USA won a gold medal, it's time for the guys on the team to start focusing on the 2012-13 NBA season. They only have a few weeks left until training camp for next season begins. And, they'll have a big challenge ahead of them next season. With the Heat looking to repeat as champions and the Lakers acquiring Dwight Howard, Miami and Los Angeles are already the favorites to play in the 2013 NBA Finals.
But, don't tell that to Kevin Durant. He thinks his Thunder are still poised to make another run to the 'chip. So, he had a pretty great response over the weekend when he was asked if he had any thoughts on the Howard-to-the-Lakers trade.
"Nah," he said. "I really don't care."
His teammate James Harden didn't really seem to give two you-know-whats about the trade, either. "It doesn't change much," he said. "Was I surprised? No. Big market. Lakers always do a great job of getting great players. Doesn't take away from us at all."
Now, that's what we like to hear. Even though we'd argue that the trade does change a lot, the fact that guys like Durant and Harden are undeterred by the Howard deal let's us know one thing—the Lakers aren't just going to walk to the Finals next June. Can we start the season, like, now? We can already tell that next season is gonna be great.
