At only 25 years old, Jon Jones joins Yoshihiro Akiyama, Caol Uno, Kazuyuki Miyata and UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva as the only mixed martial artists represented by Nike. Even though the sports apparel company has yet to make the official announcement, Bones hit his Twitter account to post the news to his followers:
Blessed to be signed by the biggest sports apparel company in the world#NIKE Dreams do come true
And if you believe this deal is just a way for Nike to get their swoosh on some of Jon Jones' gear, think again. Nike is planning on making Jones "the face of their MMA business." In addition, he is expected to have his own signature line in the near future.
Bones will be defending his UFC Light Heavyweight title in his next match on September 1st against Dan Henderson for UFC 151 in Las Vegas.
