Tuesday was the fifth anniversary of Barry Bonds hitting his 756th home run and passing Hank Aaron on the all-time home run leaders list. So, MLB.com caught up with him to talk about the feat and to discuss whether or not he believes he belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. And, his response to them asking if he thinks he deserves to be inducted? Well, let's just say we weren't surprised by it. He's optimistic...but he's also not holding his breath and waiting for the Hall of Fame voters to make their decision.
"Oh, without a doubt [I belong in the Hall of Fame]," he said. "There's no doubt in my mind…I respect the Hall of Fame, don't get me wrong. I really, really, really respect the Hall of Fame. And, I think we all do. I love the city of San Francisco and to me that's my Hall of Fame. I don't worry about it, because I don't want to be negative about the way other people think it should run. That's their opinion, and I'm not going to be negative…If [Hall of Fame voters] want to put me in there, so be it, fine. If they don't, so be it, fine."
Something tells us he will get in. Eventually. But, "without a doubt"? We wouldn't go that far. Do you think he gets in?
