The Audi R18 Le Mans prototype has no rear window, which necessitates a digital rear-view "mirror." Think of it as one of those backup cameras, but without the distortion and with an auto-dimming feature for enemy other cars' headlights. The upcoming R8 E-Tron electric supercar also has no rear window, so Audi will be bringing the digital mirror to production. One would think that putting a window on the car would be easier, but whatever.

While we think this is great, and should be installed on every tractor trailer and commercial van in the world, we're not so sure about replacing a safety device that will never have any bugs or malfunctions with one that could be prone to them, and could be rendered totally useless by a single bird crap
