Jerry Sandusky is sitting behind bars right now, reportedly getting harassed by his fellow inmates as he awaits sentencing after being convicted of 45 criminal counts of child abuse. But, should he have been put away a long time ago? According to the Freeh Report—a 267-page report that was released earlier today by former FBI director Louis Freeh—yes. Hell yes.
In a nutshell, Freeh found that Penn State coach Joe Paterno, president Graham Spanier, athletic director Tim Curley, and vice president Gary Schultz all "failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade." The report indicates that Paterno himself knew about Sandusky abusing children as far back as 1998 and "did nothing" to prevent it. And, to make matters even worse, Freeh found that Paterno and others didn't do anything about Sandusky because they were afraid of the bad publicity that it would bring to the Penn State program.
"In order to avoid the consequences of bad publicity," the report reads, "the most powerful leaders at the university—Spanier, Schultz, Paterno, and Curley—repeatedly concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky's child abuse."
If this is true, it's disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Enjoy all the "bad publicity" headed your way now, guys. This situation just got even uglier than it already was.
