Earlier today, Kobe Bryant made substantial waves when he declared that this year's Olympic team would beat the 1992 Dream Team if the two teams could ever play one another. Aside from the ridiculousness of Kobe's comments, the Lakers guard complimented David Robinson, Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone for the size they brought to the team, but he also took shots at the ages of some of the guys that played in the '92 Olympics saying "they were also--some of those wing players--were also a lot older, at kind of the end of their careers. We have just a bunch of young racehorses, guys that are eager to compete."
Well, it didn't taken long for one of the more outspoken players on that 1992 Dream Team to come to their defense. In an interview on The Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 The Fanatic Philadelphia, Charles Barkley not only said that his squad would win but that they'd win by double digits. "Oh yeah, that's no disrespect," Barkley said. "I ain't got to badmouth them. But like I said, their point guards weren't going to beat us. That's a no-brainer." When asked about Kobe ripping on the Dream Team's age, that is when Sir Charles really went in. "I just started laughing," Barkley said. "How old is Kobe Bryant? He's 34? And he's calling us old? At the time, we were only like 28, 29. Michael Jordan and me were the same age. We were both 29."
To put a end to the whole debate, Barkley finished the discussion by stating "other than Kobe, LeBron and Kevin Durant, I don't think anybody else on that team makes our team." .
