The first settlers of outer space are set to launch for Mars in 10 years.

Privately financed Dutch company Mars One has recently announced its plan to start a human colony on Mars in the year 2023, with the colony's first inhabitants, four astronauts who have agreed to live there for the rest of their lives to be followed by an additional two astronauts, to be sent every two years after, in order to grow the population.

With a plan of financing the endeavor by "creating the biggest media event ever around it," Mars One co-founder Bas Lansdorp hopes to make the mission to Mars the world's first fully privately funded space-exploration. Launched late last month on YouTube, the Mars One video below has already received close to 800,000 viewers. Maybe the mission isn't as far-fetched as it seems?
