Larry Bird helped turn the Indiana Pacers franchise around over the course of the last few seasons. They've actually improved so much that it wouldn't be out of the question for them to challenge the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls for the top playoff slot in the NBA Eastern Conference for the foreseeable future. But, Bird won't be there to see them do it. According to multiple reports, he's planning on stepping down as the president of the Pacers very soon—just a little more than a month after being named the 2011-12 NBAExecutive of the Year. Expect formerNew York KnickspresidentDonnie Walsh to replace him.
