Volkswagen is working on a trio of special editions to launch alongside the Beetle Convertible at the LA Auto Show; the concepts will be themed to reflect Bugs from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Despite the fact that the Beetle is already a retro vehicle, and that these special editions will do nothing other than add retro touches, like period paint colors, faux whitewall tires, and decade specific interior trim, Volkswagen is insisting that these are not retro; they are "current models with throwback elements," which we would take to mean "retro."
Regardless, if done well, these could be pretty cool, and we're excited to see what ze Germans come up with.
