We might have called it the Deltajalopy.

We haven't seen it race yet, but we're already big fans of the bizarre and wonderful Nissan Deltawing racer. Top Gear, in its original, British incarnation, was also inspired by the strange new Nissan. The lads across the pond, however, are blessed with a much larger fund that's probably officially earmarked for "doing silly shit," so they have started building their own deltawing racer.

The cars are both powered by 1.6L four-pots, but the Nissan one is, no-doubt, filled with all of the world's most advanced technology. The Top Gear delta is powered by a four banger from an old Ford. While the car is attempting to be as close as possible to the real thing, Nissan refused to give Top Gear any measurements, so the whole thing is basically just an approximation of the deltawing that has been cobbled together from a Ford Mondeo, a Hillman Imp, a Peugeot 207, a Fiat 126, a Morris 1000, some Ford space-saver wheels, a Ford Escort, some bits and bobs molded from a Mazda MX-5, and some other random whatnot.

We'll keep you updated as to their progress.
