Porsche has given us a glimpse into the engineering process of the highly anticipated 2014 918 Spyder. While it is certainly looking good, and nobody in their right mind would complain about a car that does 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds, tops out at 199mph, and gets 78mpg on the European cycle (about 65mpg on ours), we're not sure they'll really fly out of the showrooms at $850,000.

Who are we kidding? Oil barons and investment bankers will gobble these things up. They'll be able to keep their ostentatious supercars but will suddenly be immune to the jibes and heckling of Prius drivers. That alone is probably worth $600,000.

All of this is achieved by a 4.0L V8 and two electric motors. If the driver should so desire, the 918 will be able to get up to 94mph on electric power alone.
