BMW's current 1-Series is on its way to being replaced with a hatchback, but coupe lovers need not despair. The sporty two door we've come to love is going to get a new generation in 2014, along with a new, 2-series name-plate.
Why the change? Apparently BMW wants its nomenclature to more accurately reflect the heirarchy of vehicles from a prestige point of view, just like arch-rivals Mercedes and Audi have done.
Expect the 2-series to cost notably more than the 1-series.
