The NFL is stuck in a shitstorm of bad publicity right now. Between the bounty scandal that rocked the New Orleans Saints earlier this year and the recent death of Junior Seau that has a lot of people wondering just how harmful playing football can be to a player's brain, there has been nothing but one bad story after another coming out in regards to the league and the health of its players. And a recent tweet from New York Giants defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora isn't going to help matters much.
Last week, former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner came out and said that he wouldn't let his kids play football because of all the pain he experienced during his time in the league. Umenyiora took a similar stance on Twitter earlier today by saying that he feels he'll be in a wheelchair by the time he's 45 and that he wouldn't be mad if his son didn't play football—even though he'd still support him if he did.
Its an awesome game and has done a lot for me, but i know when im 45 there is a strong chance il be in a wheelchair.
If i can avoid that for my son, i will. But if he wants to play i wont stop him
Don't blink, folks. The NFL looks like it's changing right before our very eyes.
