USCD Scientist Dmitri Krioukov recently was given a $400 ticket for failing to completely stop at a stop sign. He then wrote a four page paper and claimed that the ticket defied the laws of physics. Being a respected member of the scientific community, this was taken seriously. We think that if we tried it it might not work as well.

Krioukov said of his defense, "[M]y argument in the court went as follows: that what he saw would be easily confused by the angle of speed of this hypothetical object that failed to stop at the stop sign. And therefore, what he saw did not properly reflect reality, which was completely different."

Despite his success in avoiding the ticket, he was warned by the judge that it took an extremely unlikely combination of circumstances for this event to work. Sadly, this isn't one we can rely on.
