The U.S. Postal Service grew suspicious of Ryan Leaf when he would receive "suspicious cash-on-delivery packages from Florida valued between $500 and $700" once or twice a week. Over time, the USPS tipped off the Central Montana Drug Task Force, who went on a month-long investigation looking into Leaf's suspect activities. On Friday, the former NFL player was arrested on burglary and drug possession charges at a parole office in Great Falls, Montana.
When the authorities searched Leaf's truck, Great Falls Police Sgt. Chris Hickman said they found "20 Oxycodone pills, a schedule II narcotic for which Leaf did not have a prescription, in a golf bag inside Leaf's truck. The pills were inside a prescription bottle that was not labeled, but another prescription bottle inside the golf bag were prescribed to a man who turned out to be an associate's of Leaf."
In addition to that discovery, Police Sgt. Hickman spoke of the conversation he had with the aforementioned associate of Leaf:

After posting the $76,000 bond, Ryan Leaf released a statement through his publicist saying, "I've made some mistakes, and have no excuses. I am using the tools I've learned to move forward rather than backwards, and will be open to talking about the details in the days to come." Aside from being one of the worst quarterbacks in NFL history, Leaf is proving to be a terrible decision-maker in his own life. While he deals with these new charges, the court will not look too kindly on the fact that the former NFL player is already on probation stemming from a plea deal he reached after a 2008 incident at West Texas A&M, where he received more than 1,000 painkillers from pharmacies over an eight-month span.
