While Ford is making history with its Focus Electric NASCAR pace car, Mercedes-Benz is taking its own route, entering the C63 AMG Black Series coupe as the safety car for the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) series. Ironically, the Black Series safety vehicle's 517-horsepower 6.3-litre V8 engine will be faster than the C63 on the track, which only puts out 505 horsepower.
Driven by Jürgen Kastenholz, the coupe will have an added LED light bar (no shit), four-point seat belts, a silencer in the exhaust, a two-way radio, and a rear-facing trunk camera. Still, it doesn't look as cool as some of these flashy safety-minded cars. The season gets underway this weekend at the Hockenheimring.
