The New York Knicks have one of the deepest benches in the NBA. With guys like J.R. Smith, Steve Novak, and Iman Shumpert all at the disposal of Knicks coach Mike Woodson, the team doesn't skip a beat when Carmelo Anthony, Jeremy Lin, or Amar'e Stoudemire needs a breather. So, naturally, they decided that they needed a cool nickname to distinguish themselves from other NBA benches. Their solution? Nicknaming themselves "Mob Deep" after the legendary NYC rap group Mobb Deep (Shumpert suggested dropping the "b" from "Mobb" and adopting the nickname after one of his Twitter followers suggested it at the beginning of March). And, recently, ESPN caught up with Prodigy of the real M-O-B-B to talk about the honor.

"I've heard them play our music before at different games, maybe during the highlights on the news and certain things like that," Prodigy explained. "But this is the first time where the team actually called something 'Mobb Deep.' That's the Knicks. That's what's up."

It sure is. Kudos to Shumpert for putting the idea into place. It works, it sounds cool, and, most importantly, P is riding for it. Now, can't you guys find a way to hook him up with some courtside seats for his troubles? We figure you owe him that much, right?
