During Saturday's exhibition game against the Mets, St. Louis brought in a pinch runner to hopefully bring home the leading run in the ninth inning. That player, sporting a very unattractive #91, left the people in the production truck scrambling to figure out who the hell that individual was. With a limited amount of time on their hands, they decided to just state the obvious on their national telecast and refer to homie as "Minor League Guy." Well played?
With a number that high, you would think that the guy would be destined for a long stay in the minors... with the occasional September call-up, of course. Unfortunately, that #91 is the Cardinals' second-best prospect, Oscar Taveras. Last year, the 19-year-old outfielder had an impressive .386 with 8 home runs and 62 RBIs at Single-A Quad Cities. With those type of numbers, it would be hard to not take note of a guy like that. But hey, let's cut these guys some slack, it's Spring Training for everybody.
