2013 Ford Escape Audio System Tuned To Pop Hits

Available this spring, the Ford Escape will feature an optional Sony 10-speaker audio system, tuned to the music of pop stars like Eminem, Rihanna, Beyonce, and Jay-Z among others.

Using a diverse mix of music, ranging from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Jay-Z, Ford's audio engineers have tuned the audio system of the 2013 Ford Escape, evaluating tonal balance, ensuring the highest quality bass, and widening the system's sound stage. Rihanna’s “S.O.S.,” for example, helped to evaluate clean bass mixed with vocals, ensuring there is nothing shrill in the tweeters and producing the most natural sounds possible.

See below for a "Best of" playlist, highlighting the audio system's fine tuning:

  • ZZ Top - “La Grange” – Listen for clean snare drum , left and right rhythm guitars and strong bass guitar
  • Yello - “The Race” – Listen for a sensation of the car racing from right to left, and left to right.
  • Lou Reed - “Walk on the Wild Side” – Listen for backup singers moving from far to near. Check for tonal balance and loud dynamics
  • Kenny Chesney - “Summertime” – Listen for clean vocals, instruments should be clearly defined
  • Eminem - “Remember Me” – Listen for loud dynamics, bass extension
  • RihannaS.O.S.” – Listen for tonal balance, clean bass, nothing shrill in the tweeters
  • Beyonce - “Déjà Vu” – Listen for bass to be clean and even. Vocals should not break up or sound overly bright
  • Peter, Paul and Mary - “I Have a Song To Sing O” – Vocals panned left-center-right in order to test staging and imaging. Voices should retain a natural timbre
  • Johnny Cash - “Bird on a Wire” – Tests tonal balance and spatial qualities. Vocals show a close-mike effect
  • Bruno Giuranna - Mozart Piano Quartets 1 & 2, “Allegretto” – Listen for a natural piano tone. Strings should be forward
