Why Is Manny Pacquiao Talking About Retiring From Boxing Soon?

Say it ain't so.

None

For whatever reason, we never really thought about Manny Pacquiao as a bad guy. Maybe it's because he's not as brash as some of his fellow fighters. But we just never got the impression that he was into things like extramarital affairs, excessive gambling, and drinking recklessly. But, as it turns out, he has been a bad guy for much of his boxing career—and he's been making a conscious effort to change it over the course of the last few months thanks to his rekindled relationship with God. He's given away more than 1,000 fighting roosters. He's sold all of the shares that he used to own in a casino. And, from the sound of things, he's also thinking about retiring from boxing sometime in the near future, possibly as soon as after his June fight against Timothy Bradley.

"It's not right that I share God's word and at the same time hurt other people," he said recently. "I've gained more than enough blessings these past years, so I think it's time for me to return the favor."

We can't fault the guy for trying to turn some things in his life around. But, yo: The Pacquaio/Floyd Mayweather, Jr. already has enough obstacles preventing it from happening. So, do we really need this one, too? Get that fight done and then walk away, Pacman. Please?
