Thirty-three years ago chairman and CEO of Nike Phil Knight started a coaches retreat, where the company could get to know the coaches and their families and bounce ideas around in a stress and media-free environment. It was at one of these retreats that Knight first met former Penn State coach Joe Paterno. For the past 12 years, after Knight's former mentor Bill Bowerman passed away, Paterno has been the man Knight looked to for guidance. Now that he is gone, the Nike genius needs a new hero. Knight expressed this in a rare public speaking appearance, in which he both showed his gratitude and approval for Paterno, and made clear that he thinks Penn State University is to blame for the recent scandal. Watch his speech in full below.
