The Miami Marlins already added one erratic character this offseason when they appointed Ozzie Guillen head coach. Now, they've brought in another fireball to the lineup by trading Chris Volstad to the Chicago Cubs for Carlos Zambrano

In order for the trade to go through, three things had to happen: One, the Cubs are required to pay $15 million of Zambrano's $18 million contract this year. Two, Zambrano had to waive his no-trade clause, and three, the Cubs were forced to give Big Z back $2.4 million of the $3 million that he lost when he "retired" and was put on the disqualified list. Basically, the Lovable Losers did everything in their power to get rid of this guy, even if they were getting the raw end of the deal. According to new president of baseball operations Theo Epstein, the move was necessary for the clubhouse to move forward.

"The best way to put it is there was a breakdown of trust," Epstein said. "It would have been very difficult to re-establish that trust."

Trust is something that Guillen and Zambrano have already established, as they have been good friends off the field. According to Miami president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest, Guillen made a huge push for the deal. Whether the two hotheads mix like salt and pepper or Diet Coke and Mentos in the dugout remains to be seen.
