Peyton Manning Used to Beat the Crap Out of Eli Manning

Is that why Eli always has that look on his face?

Talk about tough love. With Eli Manning prepping to play in Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday and his older brother Peyton Manning in the news thanks to all of the "will he or won't he play next year?" rumors flying around about his future, Eli is getting asked about Peyton a lot this week. Most of the answers Eli is forced to give are of the PC variety. But during an interview yesterday, Eli shared a pretty worthwhile story about how his big bro used to beat the crap out of him when they were both little to get him to memorize things like the names of every team in the SEC.

"His popular move," Eli explained, "he would pin me down and take his knuckles and knock on my chest and make me name the 12 schools in the SEC. I didn't know them all at the time, but I quickly learned them. It was a great learning technique. I don't suggest anyone else try it out, but it definitely made me learn the schools of the SEC. Once I figured those out, he moved on."

And by "moved on," he doesn't mean Peyton stopped him beating up. He simply means he moved on to other topics that he knew Eli didn't know like NFL teams and—our personal favorite—cigarette brands.

"The one I never got was the 10 brands of cigarettes," Eli said. "When he really wanted to torture me and knew I had no shot of ever getting it, that's when I started screaming for my mom or dad to come save me...That was his go-to move."

Oh, those crazy Manning brothers. Looks like this commercial wasn't too far off from the truth after all.
