The Notre Dame Women's Basketball Team Beat Mercer 128-42 Yesterday

That's just downright mean.

None

The No. 3 Notre Dame women's basketball team squeezed one last piece of excitement into 2011 by obliterating an unprepared Mercer team 128-42. It was the highest scoring game in Notre Dame women's basketball history and moved the team to 13-1 on the season. The Fighting Irish also set records for most points in a half (72), largest margin of victory (86), and most free throws made (43) and attempted (52). Despite the poor showing, Mercer coach Susie Gardner still tried to downplay how truly spectacular Notre Dame was.

“They’re not huge, they’re not overly ‘wow’ athletic, but they play so hard,” Gardner said. “They just know the game. They’re just basketball players.”

Just basketball players, Susie? Maybe denial really is the best way to deal with a defeat like that.
