If you were worried about whether or not the guy who starred in The Ugly Truth could hold down the leading role in Of Men and Mavericks—a film about surfing phenom Jay Moriarity—worry no more. Gerard Butler is apparently taking the gig very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that he nearly died over the weekend after he was held underwater for two waves and washed through some rocks off the coast of California while trying to complete a surfing stunt for the film. A safety patrolman on a Jet Ski was able to get to him and take him back to shore, and Butler was reportedly fine after the incident. But, he was still taken to the hospital for observation.

Good for him. We're glad to hear everything turned out okay. And in spite of the technical difficulties, we're glad to see he's taking this role so seriously. Hopefully it pays off in the end.
