Just when the Minnesota Vikings seem to have a promising rookie quarterback comes the news that a deal for a new stadium in Minneapolis is in serious jeopardy. ProFootballTalk is reporting that the Minnesota legislature is refusing to give Ramsey County (where Minneapolis is located) an exemption from a public vote on a tax to fund a new home for the Vikes.
This is a really big deal because a) such a vote couldn't happen until next November, and b) the Vikings lease at the decrepit Metrodome (see above) expires on January 1, and they've said they won't extend that lease without a deal for a new stadium. Owner Zygi Wilf hasn't come out and said the words "Los Angeles Vikings" (in fact he's tried to downplay that speculation), but the nation's second biggest city is pushing hard for a new football stadium to go near the Staples Center.
