Subaru has decided to save motoring journalists from the hassle of typing things like "2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Special Edition." In the future the Impreza will have its own platform and the WRX and STI will have their own as well. This will allow Subaru to fully focus on fuel economy and practicality with the Impreza and create a platform more appropriate for the WRX.
Depending on the layout of the new WRX/STI we may miss the fact that one can buy a rally car that seats five and has a hatch, but we aren't going to complain about better performance either.
