This past Thursday General Motors introduced the auto industry's very first front center airbag. The long overdue safety measure will make its debut in the 2013 models of the Buick enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse. The airbag is designed to protect the driver and front row passenger in the event of far-side impact crashes. GM also states that it is expected to increase safety levels in rollover accidents. The new airbag compliments the recent saftey innovations GM has been taking as a of late, including a new crash avoidance system seen in the 2012 GMC terrain. The crash avoidance system works by identifying shapes of nearby vehicles and lane markings using a high-resolution digital cameras.
