Telling your teammates when they're not playing well in an effort to try and motivate them to play better is the sign of a true leader. Telling your teammates that they're simply not as good as you and that they'll never be able to play on your level? Well, that's the sign of a true douche. And that's exactly what New York Red Bulls centre back/defensive midfielder Rafa Marquez did yesterday after his team lost 3-1 to Real Salt Lake.
"I'm focusing on really performing at my highest level," said Marquez, who has been a big disappointment for the Red Bulls this season despite signing a contract before the season that made him the third-highest paid MLS player. "That doesn't mean that the whole backline can perform at that same level, so that's a problem. I think this is a team game and unfortunately there isn't an equal level between my teammates and I."
Ouch. You really had to take it there, Rafa? Don't expect too many high-fives in the locker room today or, well, ever, dude douche. [via The Beautiful Blog]
