The MTA will issue a system-wide shutdown at noon on Saturday, August 27. As we prepare for hurricane Irene, what is expected to be one of the worst storms to hit our area in years, Governor Cuomo called an emergency cabinet meeting to announce the shutdown. This will include Subways, LIRR, Metro-North, buses, and if winds exceed 60mph, all NYC bridges will be closed to all traffic. Cuomo also announced extra aid and security with the deployment of 900 army and national guards as well as 175 ambulances.
