The 50 Greatest Plays in College Football History (Video)

College football kicks off tomorrow, but this season is already off to a wild start. Terrelle Pryor was exiled, Miami is on life support, and that's just the beginning. Yes, college football is in a weird place right now, with a number of high-profile programs facing serious off-field issues.

But we don't follow college football to hear about tattoo parlors and Ponzi schemers and compliance officers. We follow it because, on any given Saturday (and occasionally Thursday), you can witness some of the most amazing action in sports. So, as another season starts, we preview the action on the field with a look at the 50 Greatest Plays in College Football History.

#24, the tip interception, is often referred to as a "Greatest" and is an occasional occurrence in Ultimate Frisbee.

That interception would have been ruled an illegal forward pass if, back in the 2001 Peach Bowl, Auburn hadn't done the same thing. In 2001, there was no rule for that play, so officials awarded Auburn possession after the interception, yet penalized them for an illegal forward pass. In the off-season, the NCAA created a rule allowing the play with no penalty. You're welcome OK State.

In #48, "Bo Knows Patience" -- that's Boston College, not Notre Dame.

maybe the greatest plays in the last 20 years, but not in college football history. Flutie pass? Any of about 15 plays in Roger Staubach's Heisman trophy season? James Street's 3d down pass to Randy Peschel in Texas' victory over Arkansas in 1969's Big Shootout?

Can't trust a list like this when they can't even get the basic facts right. Flutie's pass CERTAINLY deserves higher than #17. And the recipient was GERARD Phelan, not Gerald, and certainly not Doug. They only seem to be interested in more recent college plays.

Well said. Can't believe that play is not on the list. Nat'l Cahmpionship implications...Heisman...pouring rain...Halloween and the drama bitter rivals. Wow, should be top 10, maybe 5.
