Last week, we brought you a bizarre story about how someone tried to smuggle a large amount of cocaine into JFK International Airport in New York City by hiding it inside of the soles of sneakers. Now comes another story involving drugs, sneakers, and a 21-year-old baseball prospect. Christian Martinez—who was recently signed to the Tampa Bay Rays—was arrested at JFK late last week when authorities discovered more than $138,000 worth of the white stuff stuffed inside of four pairs of his sneakers after Martinez's flight from the Dominican Republic to the Big Apple. He now faces drug possession charges as a result.

Safe to say smuggling drugs inside of sneakers is officially on its way out of style, eh? [via New York Daily News]
