Volkswagen's WRC Movement May Spawn Polo R

But would this hot hatch find its way to our shores?

As Volkswagen prepares to take the World Rally Championship by storm, rumors have been resurrected that a performance 'R' version of its Polo may be tapped for production. Now though, it seems this won't be a rumor for long. In recently released images of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC, it's clear that the race-prepped car is indeed a Polo R. Autocar reports that VW board member Ulrich Hackenberg went on the record saying the car's WRC debut makes a production release all the more likely, but such a model wouldn't hit dealers until 2013.

Though just speculation, it's figured that the Polo R will pack Volkswagen's 1.4 liter twin-charger 4-cylinder, producing upwards of 200hp, and might be mated to an AWD system, courtesy of Audi's A1. As for a U.S. version, don't hold your breath.
