BMW barely had time to catch the backlash of its 1-Series M, but the Germans have already confirmed that there will be fewer than 1,000 units produced, and only sold for 2011.

Unlike most M series that are powered by new types of engines, the 1-Series M carries the same 335hp twin-turbo engine as the new Z4, but the reason for the decline may be BMW ActiveE, the electric car powered by a lithium-ion battery pack.  Linking with AeroVironment, owners will have 240-volt chargers installed in their garages.

BMW said “that it is not necessarily ending the 1-Series M forever, but expect a few-year delay before a replacement arrives”.
