Everybody knows the auto industry's latest shift is from the pump to the plug. For those of us who still enjoy spirited drives, the news has been less than exciting. Luckily, the boys at Benz have a different take on the movement. Along with a fleet of other lean, green vehicles, the German automaker has revealed an electric version of its SLS AMG at this year's North American International Auto Show.

If its gull-wing retro design wasn't already a flying kick to the face, the E-Cell's matte-yellow paint job dares you not to stare. Powered by four electric motors and lithium-ion batteries that regenerate power through braking, the super-coupe puts out an electrifying 525hp and a neck-breaking 649 pound-feet of torque. Though it debuted in Detroit as a mere concept car, the reaction from the public has seemingly swayed Mercedes' mind, as MB is planning to produce the car for a 2013 release. There's still no word on how long it will take to charge, or if Benz will offer the color on any other models (fingers crossed). We think people putting money down on a Tesla Roadster may want to rethink their purchase. Just saying.
