All athletes are susceptible to freak injuries, but the most gruesome mishaps usually occur in combative sports like football (both kinds) or boxing/MMA. However, don't let anyone ever tell you that basketball isn't a contact sport. We learned that the cringe-inducing way last weekend when we saw Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogutpainfully dislocate his elbow after a dunk against Phoenix. (Amare Stoudemire later tweeted this; Bogut responded. See, Stern? Twitter ain't always bad.) So, with the images of Bogut's lifeless, dangling arm fresh in our minds, we rounded up the 10 most gruesome basketball injuries...

1. SHAUN LIVINGSTON, L.A. CLIPPERS
DATE: 2/26/2007
INJURY: Torn ACL, PCL, and lateral meniscus. Sprained MCL and dislocated knee as well. Doctors gave Livingston the OK to play basketball a year and a half afterward.
COMPLEX SAYS: Skip the medical acronyms. We'll just say it looks like the stanky leg gone EXTREMELY WRONG.
