John Geiger is Set to Sell off What’s Left of His Notorious Sneaker Collection

“The Iverson Question was one of my favorite shoes growing up. Teyana came out with [a women’s pair], and I kept hitting her up about them. Finally she was like, ‘Yo, there’s a pair coming.’ It’s a women’s 14, so it’s like a men’s 12. I just never wore them. I wanted to keep them, but I just felt like it’s a very rare size and people would like it. My relationship with her and Iman worked out for me [with that shoe].”

“Air Force Ones always go up, and even now they’re still one of my favorite shoes. I have a lot of Air Force Ones. These were for Black History Month a couple of years ago. All of the patterns were fire to me. I only wore them once because I wanted to save them. But I actually have a couple pairs, so no worries.”

“The Grey Futuras are very old too. I want to say they’re from 2010. I just never wore them. They’ve just been chilling [deadstock]. I live in a loft in Miami, so there’s not a lot of room [for sneakers], so they’re all in storage.”

“I have my own footwear line now. In 2015, before I moved from Pittsburgh to Miami, I wanted to downsize but I wanted it to mean something. When I was going through the process of making my own shoe, I found out the sole mold was going to cost $8,000 per size. So I just started selling everything, and that money went into the process of making that shoe. Getting rid of [those sneakers] meant something. Instead of just pocketing the money, it went to building my own brand.”

“The 001s were $600… if you knew about them, you knew about them. The orange and the [original] colorways aren’t even available anymore. They all sold out. Two weeks ago was the one year anniversary of the 001s. You can literally name like five independent footwear lines that are actually succeeding, so I’m pretty blessed to have this going on. We start going into retailers like Barney’s in the fall. After one year, to be in Barney’s is pretty unheard of.”

“I don’t know why these just always stood out to me; the crazy red pattern on it. I actually have like five [pairs]. These were the ones that I only wore once. They’re one of my favorite colorways.”

“These player exclusives have the #30 [Rasheed Wallace’s former jersey number] on the strap, and his signature fade-away on the bottom. All white patent leather. That was just a rare shoe. You can’t find any of them now.”

“[The Zoom Revis] is actually how I got started in design. I used to do sports management. One of [my clients] was Darelle Revis. He got his own shoe, and I got to go to those meetings at Nike and that’s what led to me wanting to design. I would sit in on these meetings and I would give input, so I got royalty checks—basically [my first] designer fee.”
