Milan-based designer-slash-DJ Marcelo Burlon is the king of collaborations these days. Following high-profile collabs with Tyga and Kappa, Burlon is ready to launch his next partnership; a sneaker collaboration with Reebok.
After teasing a partnership with the athletic footwear and apparel giant at County of Milan’s military-inspired presentation earlier this year, Burlon was in Toronto earlier this week to help hype the sneaker release at Saks Fifth Avenue at the Toronto Eaton Centre — the first store in North America to exclusively carry the collab. (Saks’ New York flagship exclusively carried the Marcelo Burlon X Tyga capsule collection of T-shirts, hoodies and shorts last year)
Burlon’s reinterpretation of the Reebok Zoku runner is minimal and sleek. Available in monochromatic white and black colourways, the left shoe is branded with Marcelo Burlon County of Milan’s cross logo while the right bears the Reebok Classic logo. The ultraknit woven uppers also feature a sock-like ankle collar, plastic cage and leather heel.
In the last decade, high-low collaborations have become the norm in the fashion industry and Burlon is happy to be part of the movement. "It’s not just about clothes. It’s a lifestyle actually," he said.
Burlon’s label has evolved immensely through the last few years. After focusing strictly on artfully-printed graphic tees, the brand has evolved into a highly respectable streetwear label with full runway collections for both men and women. Plus, we can’t forget how County of Milan was one of the first high-end streetwear brands to present at Pitti Uomo, an event typically reserved for traditional menswear.
The limited edition Marcelo Burlon County of Milan x Reebok Zoku runner retails for $428 and is available at Saks Fifth Avenue.
