The smallest of details can make or break a sneaker for die hard fans. With the Nike Air Max 1's 30-year anniversary and 2017 Air Max Day coming up, the classic running silhouette will have a huge presence in March. Luckily, the Swoosh isn't taking any short cuts on the design process.

While the Air Max 1 has released in numerous variations since its original debut, Nike aimed to bring back the original look for the 2017 version. A new Behind the Design video show's how Nike Sportswear designers worked to achieve that "Golden Era" look collectors have come to know and love. Tinker Hatfield's original drawings from 1986 as well as physical pairs helped make it possible. Everything from a sleek and slim toe cap to perfectly sloped mud guards are featured on the upcoming versions.

The Nike Air Max 1 releases for $140 in its original red colorway on March 4 and in its original blue colorway on March 11 on Nike SNKRS. There will surely be more colorways —like the Atmos collaboration— dropping in March, so stayed posted to Sole Collector for all Air Max 1 release dates.
