Reebok Responds to Gun Giveaway Protests

Reebok is catching heat over a CrossFit Games promotion.

Reebok stores in New York City were hit with protests on Saturday, with citizens gathering to voice their concerns over a CrossFit Games giveaway in which winners of the event would receive Glock handguns in addition to cash prizes, the New York Daily News reports.

Reebok is an official partner of CrossFit and sponsor of the CrossFit Games, which held its 10th annual event in California this past weekend.

Protesters called the gun giveaway "an outrage" in light of recent gun violence in America.

In a statement provided to Sole Collector, the sportswear brand said it does not agree with the CrossFit Games' decision to give guns as prizes.

"As the title sponsor of the Games, we unfortunately do not have input regarding other partners or promotions," the statement reads. "While we understand CrossFit's foundations are tied to military and first responders, we do not agree with this decision, particularly in light of current events in the United States."
