A Tennessee police officer went above and beyond the call of duty this week when he bought a brand new pair of New Balances for a man who was down on his luck.

It all started on Wednesday afternoon, when police in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., received a call about a suspicious person hanging out behind a local business. When police arrived, they found a man in his 50s and noticed that he was wearing two right shoes, both of which had seen better days.

That's when one officer stepped up and decided to take the man sneaker shopping. They stopped by Good Feet Tennessee, where the manager was so impressed by the officer's efforts that he ended up giving him a discount on the New Balances.

"We are here to serve and so blessed that Mt. Juliet is such a supportive community," the department wrote on Twitter.
